Dr. Meghan Owenz is a licensed and board-certified counseling psychologist specializing in couple and family therapy. She has been working with couples and families since 2007, providing counseling and psychoeducational workshops. Additionally, she serves as a Clinical Professor at Florida International University and has been training counseling professionals since 2015. She has contributed to the literature on couple flourishing and family therapy. Specifically, she contributed to developing a model of high-functioning, meaningful and growth-focused relationships and a scale to measure such relationships. She has also published in the arena of parenting, family therapy, post-traumatic growth, and effective teaching and supervisory methods.

Her work with couple and family therapy began at Pepperdine University, where she earned a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. While earning this degree, she worked at the Prestigious Boone Center for the Family as a Relationship Educator, providing workshops on relationship communication, partner selection, and relationship expectations. From there, she earned her doctoral degree from the University of Miami, during which time she worked on clinical trials of culturally-informed family therapy and contributed to the research on meaningful romantic relationships. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings from college counseling centers to community mental health to residential eating disorder treatment. In every setting, she gravitated towards working with couple and family issues. At the university level, she has taught over 20 different courses for five universities, including courses in Marriage and Families, Child Development, Clinical Supervision, and Human Flourishing.

As a couples and family therapist, she believes we are both hurt and healed in relationships. She is an active, research-informed therapist who truly enjoys getting to know each of her clients. She is focused on helping couples uncover deeper issues and vulnerable emotions which are contributing to patterns of conflict and frustration. She does so with a strong assessment phase and structured, goal-oriented evidence-based treatment. In addition to training in IBCT, she is also trained in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy, and mindfulness-integrated therapies.

Personally, Dr. Owenz is married and has two children. She enjoys exploring the outdoors, visiting National Parks, and playing board games with her family.
